Maharagama Sports Club recognises members’ talents

Maharagama Sports Club organised the first ever Athletics Award Ceremony to recognise the talent of more than 50 athletes in the athletics arena recently which was held at Somro Reception Hall, Maharagama. The chief guest of the event was Olympic silver medallist and Member of the Women’s Committee of the Asian Athletic Association Susanthika Jayasinghe. She commended the efforts taken by the club, stating that such events encourage and uplifts these budding athletes. She also stated that she will in the future assist such causes in the best possible way. Former President of Sri Lanka Athletic Association and the Former Director General of the Ministry of Education Sunil Jayaweera, the Guest of Honour at the event, stated that in the past great talent has appeared from Sri Lanka, such appreciation of promising talent should be highly praised. He too stated that he will be showing his support to the club to his maximum capacity. The athletes who have been awarded at this ceremony have participated in district and national level competitions and have been able to win many awards through the training, guidance and supervision provided by Nalin Perera from 2009 under the athletic training program initiated by the club.
