Mahamaya College and St. Joseph›s College became champs at the 44th Sri Lanka Schools Age Group Swimming Championships at the Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Complex over the weekend.
Mahamaya (519 points) won their 19th consecutive girls’ title along with the Joes (560 points) who won it for the 14th consecutive year in the boys’ segment. Visakha Vidyalaya was placed second in the girls’ event with 507.50 points, while Sirimavo Balika Vidyalaya clinched the second runner-up position, aggregating 343 points.
Royal College (381 points) and Ananda College (349 points) finished second and third in the boys’ event, with over 150 schools being represented by over 3,000 plus swimmers. Royal secured the team diving event with Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia securing second and third place respectively. Bishop’s College accounted for the girls’ event closely followed by St. Bridget’s College and Srimavo Balika Vidyalaya.
The evergreen Akalanka Peris of St. Peter›s College was the Overall Best Swimmer (boys) while Vinoli Kaluarachchi (Sirimavo Balika) was named the Best Swimmer in the girls’ segment. (SJ)
