The International Schools’ Athletic Championships (ISAC), which commenced in 2001, has now established itself as the flagship sporting event of the country’s international schools.
ISAC 2016 will be hosted by Lyceum International School, the seventh time the school will be doing so since first being granted the honour in 2004.
The ISAC 2016 is scheduled to be held on 4, 5and 6 March at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama, from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. each day. Lyceum took over the reins of the ISAC from Gateway College in 2004 and continued hosting the event every three years. At the closing ceremony of ISAC 2015 once again Lyceum took over to serve as the Official Organiser of ISAC 2016.
Kumari Grero, the Director and Coordinating Principal of Lyceum International Schools Sri Lanka, says that since the launch of ISAC, the event has been elevated to international standards and acquired the status of an important national event.
During the 15 years of its existence, ISAC has elevated the standard of athletics among TISSL-affiliated international schools to an extent where it produces skilled, professional athletes who represent Sri Lanka at foreign track and field athletic championships.
It is encouraging to see a few esteemed service providers both in higher education and the consumer market come forward to sponsor an event of this magnitude and contribute to the overall development of pupils, making them all-rounders by sharpening their sporting skills.
The event’s sponsors have been supporting extracurricular activities of this nature, in a bid to promote healthy minds in a healthy body, with special relevance to leadership.
ISAC 2016 will be conducted in accordance with TISSL rules and regulations and those of the International Athletic Federation, and will include electronic timing and measurements.
Around 3,000 athletes from 24 international schools will compete in 130 events for boys and girls. There will be over 300 officials who will conduct the competition under the rules of the Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka. Over 20,000 spectators including students, parents, relatives, staff members of all TISSSL member schools and cheering squads of participating schools are expected to be present.
The championships event is fully computerised with web-based entries to instantly access results and scores over the Internet through the ISAC website http://isac.lyceum.lk, designed and developed by the Department of Information Technology of Lyceum International School. This dedicated website will provide all necessary information including past meet records and a full list of competitors for this year’s meet. All athletes participating at the ISAC 2016 will carry a common identity card issued by TISSL, the governing body coordinating international schools in Sri Lanka.
