The Lankan Golfers UAE Society will be organising the second annual Golf Open competition which will be held on 20 April at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort Rajawella Digana.
Witnessing the successful turn out last year, with an over whelming 118 players teeing off, the UAE lads have decided to bring the show back to Sri Lanka on an even bigger scale.
If you are a golfer, irrespective of whether you consider yourself a good or a not so good golfer, if your aim is to have some fun on the course, enjoy great camaraderie and have a bit of fun at the 19th-hole after your round, then this is an event not to be missed. The Lankan Golfers UAE Society is a strictly non-profit outfit formed by a group of ‘Golf Crazy’ Sri Lankan professionals living in the UAE. The group have been arranging fun golfing events in both Sri Lanka and across the UAE for their membership and other golf loving expats of varying nationalities based in the UAE. A unique brand of golfing hospitality is what the UAE lads claim, last years event at Victoria was ample proof of this commitment. This year’s event will be open to the first 110 registrations on a first come first served basis. The entries close on 10 April 2013. Lankan Golfers UAE Society founder and President Julien Arnolda said: “Last year was a surprise for us as we did not expect such a turn out, and even after golf there were many who were enjoying the entertainment until the wee hours. We have had so many requests to bring back the event and as promised we are back and hopefully it will be even bigger and better this year.
“We also expect more golfers from the UAE to participate this year and our ultimate aim is to promote Sri Lanka as one of the top golfing destinations in South East Asia” Arnolda said.
A day of the highest standards of hospitality not only for the players but also for their families, with food, drinks and entertainment throughout the day is planned with a fun evening of live music and dinner bringing the day to a close. There will also be lots of exciting prizes for the players to make it an unforgettable day of fun and competition. The overall winner of the tournament will win a fully paid golfing trip to Dubai to play a few rounds of golf with the Lankan Golfers on some of the finest courses in the UAE. The prize will include return air fare, five-star accommodation and green fees. The tournament will be played following the Stableford format and there will be divisional winner and runner-up prizes as well as nearest to pin, longest drive and straightest drive prizes as well,” Arnolda continued. The event is sponsored by Shan Auto, Entrust Securities, Trade Ventures the distributors of Jabra Bluetooth products, HSBC, Frico International, Sri Lankan Airlines, Rani Drinks and Red Bull Energy drinks. Any residue of the sponsorship money will be used in full for a selected initiative, to improve the welfare of the caddies and ball boys at the Victoria Golf Club.
