Lanka Lions end up eighth in Singapore

The Sri Lankan development rugby outfit known as the Lanka Lions finished eight at the 68th edition of the Societe Generale-sponsored Singapore Cricket Club Rugby Sevens, which concluded in Singapore yesterday.

The Lions, led by Sudarshan Muththanthri, drew with Cotteslow (19-19), beat the Sewedh Vikings (12-10) and the Palmyra Rugby Union (140-31) before losing to Penguin International RFC (14-38) and Casurania Cugars (17-24).

Playing in the plate semi-final, the Lanka Lions lost to PNG Interoil Turagas 45-7. In the 20-team annual event, the South African Rugby Football Union Academy beat Penguin RFC 36-5 to win the cup. The plate was won by PNG, the shield by France Development, the bowl by NS Silver and the jug by the Tamriya Rugby Football Club. 

Sri Lanka’s sevens outfit will leave for Hong Kong in two days time for the Asian Qualifiers for the Rio Olympics. The two-day event will take place at Causeway Bay in Hong Kong on 7 and 8 November.
