This year Sri Lanka Junior Open sponsored by Ceylon Agro Industries – Prima Group saw a high standard of golf on the first day played at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
Kyle De Silva had a brilliant score of 74 gross under tough conditions to take the lead on the first day of the tournament yesterday.
Closely followed by Sachin De Silva of British School with a gross score of 75 in second place in the overall championship. Both boys taking the lead in the respective age group category 15 – 17years the Gold division too. Development squad player Chanaka Perera had a disappointing score of 83 gross. Sasinathan of Victoria Golf Club had gross score of 87 showing talent from the outstation players.
Much to be expected from theses players in the next two rounds.
In the Silver group age group 11 to 14 years Prashan Peiris shot a formidable score of gross 80 to take the lead. Coming in second place was Zaffar Sikkanddar with a gross score of 83. Others in the category that show promise is Ishira Fernando 91, Charya Kannangara 97 and Rukman Sovis 97.
The bronze division age group category 10 years and below over nine holes of play saw Vinod Weerasinghe of British School steal the limelight with a gross score of 43 followed by Arvind Hirdaramani of Colombo International School with a gross score of 50. Much to be seen in the second day to be play today.
