Katukurunda Racing Meet to flag off with a purpose

Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) and Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers & Riders (SLARDAR), two of the most prestigious motor sports clubs in the country, have yet again put together a massive show for the motor sports enthusiasts together with the Lions Clubs International District 306 C1. 

The ‘Sri Lanka Super Series 2017’ powered by Abaya & Co., Distributor for USHA pistons and SPR piston rings, is scheduled to conduct the Katukurunda Racing Circuit at Katukurunda race track on 19 March and will be flagged off at 9 a.m. 

Annually the Lions Club District 306 C1 carries out fundraising projects in order to generate funds to implement many community service projects to serve the poor, the downtrodden and the under privileged.Untitled-4

This year, the University of Peradeniya has requested a back-hoe loader machine. Professor Luxman Wijeyeweera, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya is also one of the past District Governors, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Past District Governors Association of District 306 C1, in Sri Lanka.

The race will generate the required funds to oblige with the request. The University of Peradeniya is the largest residential university in Sri Lanka with over 15,000 students, nine different faculties and three postgraduate institutions.

Speaking about the event Lion Heshan Padukka MJF – Project Chairman – Lions Top Speed said: “We are thrilled to partner with the Katukurunda Racing Circuit 2017. The Lions Club International District 306 C1 will be celebrating one hundred years of unparalleled service to people, addressing many community needs such as disaster relief, preventing blindness, empowering youth, relieving the hunger, strengthening educational functions in primary, secondary and higher educational institutions, etc. We are delighted to state that we have already achieved our goal of serving one hundred million people world over, in three years, to mark our centennial celebrations, before the end of the targeted period of 2014-2018.”

This race will be the 1st round of the ‘Sri Lanka Super Series 2017. The event will be one of the ‘hottest’ events in motor sports in Sri Lanka. The country’s best racing drivers and riders will showcase their fully prepped up race cars and their driving capabilities when they fight it out on 15 different categories. 

The main events will be the famous SL GT up to 3500cc event and the SL-H Up to 1600cc event where over 20 competitors are expected to perform while the events featuring motorcycles up to 1000cc and up to 600cc are expected to be high glamour events. These will be supported by all other regular car and bike events. 

Spectators are reminded that there will be two gates operational at all times and they can enter or leave anytime they wish to. Tickets will be available at the gates. 

All cars and motorcycle racing enthusiasts are welcome to participate and the entries are open. Entry forms can be collected from and submitted to the SLARDAR Office, 128 (2nd Floor), High Level Road, Nugegoda between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
