Kasun Amarasinghe of Cinnamon Lakeside wins Silver at sixth Kamagatha Cup

The sixth Kamagatha Karate Challenge Trophy 2012 held on 11 August 2012 saw Kasun Rasanja Amarasinghe, a Commis Chef at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, win the silver medal in the black belt below 67 kg category.

The championship was organised by the Japan Seigokai Karate Do.  Winning against a local player in the first round, he progressed to From left: Executive Assistant Manager, Calvin Stevenson, Silver medalist Kasun Amarasinghe, Executive Chef, Martin Becquart and Manager Learning and Development, Priyankara Sumanapalagethe second round to face an international player from India.  Kasun won a silver medal after three rounds in the Boys Kumite 67kg event against the Air Force.

Kasun’s interest in karate began six years ago during his training at school.  This led him to being appointed karate coach at Bomiriya Central College.  He was awarded a first dan Japan seigo kai karate black belt by the Olympic committee in 2010 and was previously placed amongst the best eight Kumite category senior black belt champions of the Sri Lanka Karate-do Federation.

Kasun’s karate skills have taken him to the international stage as he has been selected to participate in the Indian tour taking place in December 2012.  Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is home to a talented family of associates who are encouraged to pursue their goals.
