Kandy SC skipper Fazil Marija with an attacking move against navy last year.
By Shamzeer Jaleel
Kandy Sports Club, the defending League and Clifford Cup holders, will play their last first round encounter tomorrow when they lock horns with the Sailors at their home grounds in Nittawela.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 4 pm.
Kandy SC led by national fifteens skipper Fazil Marija and rest of the lads are performing at their peak at present. Kandy three quarter linelooks unstoppable. They have skipper Fazil Marija, Richard Dharmapala, Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Lavanga Perera and Gayan Weeraratne with full back Arshard Jamaldeen joining the over-lap. Even players in the caliber of Shehan Pathirana, Nigel Ratwatte and Srinarth Sooriyabandara are finding it tough to get in to the starting line-up. They have a mobile pack with players such as Heshan Kalhara, Buwanka Udangamuwa and Kishore Jahn looking rock solid.
Navy SC will be led by Yoshitha Rajapaksa with some class players in their ranks such as Sajith Saranga, Dhanushka Perera and Nuwan Hettiarachchi. Unfortunately, however they have lost more than 7 very good players to Police this season being a major set-back for them. At present Kandy are leading the points table and the Sailors are placed at number 3.
Tickets will be sold at the Club House starting at 10 a.m. on the match day. Ticket prices start from RS. 100/-
