Junior National Athletic Championships powered by SLT completed successfully

The Junior National Athletic Championships powered by SLT and held for the 17th consecutive time this year at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama was successfully completed on Sunday, 15 May.

Awards were handed out to the winners by the Chief Guest Secretary of the Ministry of Sports Dr. D.M.R.B. Dissanayake, the Guest of Honour SLT Chief Marketing Officer Ajantha Seneviratne as well as the President of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association SugathThilakaratne.

Winners of the challenge trophies:

  • Sri Lanka Telecom Challenge Trophy for the Best Performer of the Meet – L.P.G. Dananjaya from Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa
  • Susanthika Jayasinghe Challenge Trophy for the Best Athlete in Girls Under 16 Category – T.M. Madara Piumini Weerasuriya from St. Joseph’s Balika College, Kegalle
  • NAQNA Kurera Challenge Trophy for the Best Athlete in Boys Under 16 Category – A. Shalika Santhush Weerasinghe from St. Benedict’s College
  • N. Vyrawanathan Challenge Trophy for the Best Athlete in Boys Under 18 Category – S.P.A. Darshana from Weerakappatipola C.C. Akuramboda
  • Damayanthi Dharsha Challenge Trophy for the Best Athlete in Girls Under 18 Category – K.G.D.M.S. Kumarasinhe from A. Rathnayaka M.M.V. Walala
  • Deshabandu Lt. Col. W. Wimaladasa Challenge Trophy for the Best Athlete in Girls Under 20 Category – Hashini Paboda Balasuriya from Holy Family Balika Vidyalaya,Wennappuwa
  • D. Stanly Thabrew Memorial Challenge Trophy for the Best Athlete in Boys Under 20 Category – L.P.G. Dananjaya from Joseph Vaz College
  • Bank of Ceylon Trophy for the Best Athlete in Girls Under 23 Category – H.D. Vidusha Lakshani from Sri Lanka Army
  • Bank of Ceylon Trophy for the Best Athlete in Boys Under 23 Category – Amila Jayasiri from Sri Lanka Air Force

The championship brought forth a new Sri Lanka record for the pole vault event, Girls Under 20 category. The record was achieved by W.G.H.S.K. Darmarathna from A. Rathnayake C.C. Walala. The championship also saw 14 new meet records and two equal meet records as well.
