JAT Holdings successfully conducted its inaugural Aeron Hockey Tournament, yet another first in the corporate sporting history of the country.
The event took place on 5 November at Trace Expert City with the participation of 14 of the most reputed local business organisations battling out for the title at the first-ever office hockey tournament in Sri Lanka. The teams which took part were, MillenniumIT (MIT), HSBC, HDPL, Philip Weerasinghe Associates (PWA), Murad Ismail – Channa Daswatta Associates (MICDA), Young Architects Forum (YAF), Surath Wickramasinghe Associates (SWA), Dialog, British Council, Hayleys, DHL and Virtusa.
Aeron Hockey is an evolution of office hockey played with a puck and makeshift stick. Played in a purpose-built indoor court, it comprised five players a side. Armed with hockey sticks bearing close resemblance to the ones used in ice hockey, the teams competed for the lead while seated on iconic Herman Miller Aeron chairs.
After an exhilarating bout of keenly contested battles, DHL emerged as champions, and were presented with the enviable first prize reward of five Aeron chairs worth one million rupees together with the Champions’ Trophy. Philip Weerasinghe Associates (PWA) became the first runner-up followed by the British Council which was placed the second runners-up of the tournament.
The tournament was organised to showcase the ergonomics and versatility of this unique chair and to highlight its exceptional functionality while brand targeting its direct and indirect customer base amongst the top corporate and design firms in Sri Lanka. The tournament received unprecedented enthusiasm and a phenomenal response both on ground and on social media.
