Isipathana College Colombo and Meddebadda MV Wasalakotte clinched the Boys and Girls Cup champions respectively at the inaugural Sri Lankasports.com Handball Challenge 2012 U-15 Schools Handball tournament concluded at D.S. Senanayake College Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
Isipathana College Colombo beat Prince of Wales Moratuwa by 9 goal to 4 at the Cup boys’ championship finals while Meddebadda MV Wasalakotte beat Buddhists Ladies College Colombo by 7 goal to nil at the girls’ Cup Championship finals.
St. Anthony’s College Wasalakotte immerged winners of the Boys’ Plate champions beating Homagama Central College at the Plate championship finals by 4 goals to 3 and the Girls Plate championship went to Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda which beat Homagama Central College by 6 goals to 1.
The Boys Bowl Championship was taken by Isipathana College Colombo “B” Team after registering a victory over Royal College Panadura by 4 goals to 3 at the finals and in the Girls Bowl Championship finals Devi Balika Vidyalaya Colombo “B” were the winners when they beat Sunethradevi balika MV Pepiliyana by 8 goals to 1.
A total of 16 boys and 12 girls’ schools teams battled for glory at the event which was organised by Sri Lanka’s first sports website, www.srilankasports.com, with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Schools Handball Association. It has also created history as the Sri Lanka’s first-ever U15 schools indoor handball tournament held in Sri Lanka.
The tournament was held for Cup, Plate and Bowl Championships and a certificate of participation was given to all the players with official certification from the Sri Lanka Schools Handball Association.
