India beat Australia by eight wickets in the first Test at Chennai on Tuesday to take a 1-0 lead.
India’s spinners took all the 20 wickets for only the third time in its Test history.
India broke the stubborn final wicket stand of Australia in just 25 minutes on the fifth and final day.
Debutant all-rounder Moises Hendriques remained unbeaten on 81. Nathan Lyon (11) was Australia folded up for 241 in their second innings, leaving the host a victory target of 50.
India lost both its openers Murali Vijay (6) and Virender Sehwag (19) before overhauling the target with more than two sessions to spare.
Cheteshwar Pujara brought about the winning run off Nathan Lyon.
