Stadium in Matara last Saturday. Hambantota collected 151 points to emerge clear winners while the Matara District were runners-up with 109.5 points.
Galle District was placed third with 87.5 points and Galle City was fourth with 62 points. Deputy General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon Russell Fonseka was the chief guest.
More than 800 staff members of the Bank of Ceylon’s 70 branches in the Southern Province participated in the event. V. N. Wanigasekera from the Neluwa branch in the Galle District who jumped a distance of 5.02 meters was named Best Athlete at the meet while K. D. C. Ranaweera from the Kamburupitiya branch in the Matara District was named the best female athlete after jumping a distance of 9.18 meters in the triple jump event.
The weighty Galle District team defeated Galle City to win the tug of war which was the final event of the meet. Galle defeated Matara while Galle
City defeated Hambantota to reach the final. Each team comprised of five males and three females.
