Former cricketer Gamini Rajapakse was elected as the President at the Kandy Club at its 138th Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place at the Club House yesterday.
Suri Rajan, the well-known Rotarian, stepped down after five consecutive years. Former Kandy sportsman Hafiz Marikar was re-elected as the Secretary.
Marikar a well-known sports promoter from the hills, has given his best for this club as a member, Committee member, Vice President and now as Secretary.
Kandy Club with a long standing history was formed in 1877 by then planters and military men. It started with sports activities like boating, billiards, snooker and table tennis and was also famous for dancing.
