Hellibees Racing has kicked of 2016 “brilliantly” with four wins and four podium finishes at the first tarmac race of the year, held in Mirigama on 6 March. The next stop for the Hellibees Racing team is Round 1 of the Katukurunda Circuit Meet to take place soon.
Winning the first four races of the day, Hellibees riders Hansika Abeysinghe (125cc), Sangeeth Suriyage (250cc Super Motard) and Shoel Daniel (250cc and 600cc), the latter considered to be one of the best riders seen in recent times, set a blistering pace for the competition, with Sangeeth also coming in second in the 450cc Super Motard. Adding to this remarkable achievement, legendary Sri Lankan rider and triple international winner Reza Odayar also performed admirably during the meet, having earned a highly respectable second place (podium) in both the 250cc and the open events, as well as a third (podium) in the 250cc Super Motard. This also follows Reza’s very recent, spectacular success at the Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb 1000cc where he clocked in at 36.45, and was adjudged the second fastest rider of the day.
It is also noteworthy that relative newcomer Hansika excelled in the 125cc event, convincingly winning her category despite going up against both seasoned veterans and international riders, a feat made even more special because she was also the only woman taking part at Mirigama this year.
