Defending league and Clifford Cup champions Kandy Sports Club will be hosting Police SC in one of the key second round Inter club rugby encounters which will be worked off on 31 January.
The kick-off is scheduled at 4 pm.
Kandy, already having two easy outings against CH & FC and Air Force, should have things their way. Playing at Nittawela, Kandy is a different outfit and, to be beaten, the visiting team should do something extra special to come on top. Kandy has one of the best three quarter lines with players such as Gayan Weeraratne, Lavanga Perera, Visthwamithra Jayasinghe, Nigel Ratwatte along with their forwards Shehan Pathirana and Kishore Jahn, all of whom look in top form at present. Kandy will miss their regular skipper Fazil Marija who had a slip disc which will keep him away from rugby for a minimum of one month. The Cops on the other hand already won their two second round encounters and look a different outfit all together. They have Mohamed Sheriff, Reza Mubarak, Sharo Fernando and “Iron Man” Bilal Hassen in their starting line up. Kandy will have two more home games against Havies and CR & FC. Prior to these two they will need to get on top of Army and Navy in away encounters.
Referee Irshard Cader will handle the whistle in this encounter.
Former Trinitian and Deputy Chief Executive of Etisalat Riyaz Rasheed will be the Chief Guest on Sunday.
