Expolanka off to Mumbai for Standard Chartered Trophy 2015

Winners Standard Chartered Trophy 2015 Expolanka with FFSL CEO Anura de Silva and Standard Chartered's Sanjeewani de Silva     In an exciting nail-biting final WNS and Expolanka clashed for the top spot in the Standard Chartered Trophy 2015 recently at Campbell Park. Expolanka emerged winners with a 1-0 score and will now fly to Mumbai to participate in the South Asia regional tournament on 1 March 2015 against the teams from India. The winning team will represent South Asia region at the Finals. The Go Forward 1 team and the team from KPMG took 3rd and 4th place respectively. Should Expolanka beat the Indian competition in Mumbai, the team will be in line for a “money can’t buy” opportunity – as the prize for the regional winners includes a trip to the UK, the chance of playing on a Premier League pitch, dinner with LFC Legends and a chance to receive a professional training session with the Academy coaches in preparation for the Finals. Standard Chartered Trophy 2015 2nd Place WNS with FFSL CEO Anura de Silva and Standard Chartered's Sanjeewani de Silva     The Road to Anfield program, now in its fourth season, will see the participation of a total of 19 markets from across Standard Chartered’s footprint participating in the regional qualifying tournaments. A total of 10 winning teams will then represent their country at the Standard Chartered Trophy Finals, to be played at Liverpool FC’s home ground, Anfield on 8 May. The champions will receive the ‘Standard Chartered Trophy’ at Anfield. The final saw the enthusiastic participation of teams from MAS Intimates, KPMG, MAS Capital, MAS Linea Aqua, MAS Legato, Walkers Tours, WNS, Hirdramani, Hemas, SGIT, Courtaulds and Expolanka as well as teams from Standard Chartered and Go Forward. The tournament format included 5-a-side 10-minute matches. Referees and officials from the Football Federation of Sri Lanka officiated (FFSL), and Anura de Silva, Chief Executive Officer of the FFSL graced the occasion and gave the welcome address and handed out the trophies to the winners. This is the very first time Sri Lankan football enthusiasts are afforded the LFC experience by way of Standard Chartered Trophy – ‘The Road to Anfield’. The experience leverages on the bank’s sponsorship of Liverpool Football Club to afford an indelible and memorable experience to soccer enthusiasts and clients within its global footprint.
