The annual Sports Day of ESOFT Metro Campus was held under the guidance of its Chairman/Managing Director Dr. Dayan Rajapaksa at the Bloomfield Grounds in Colombo recently. The salient feature this year was that the event unfolded with a new look, accompanied by a diverse range of interesting facets. A walk and vehicle parade, track and field contest, a six-a-side softball match, a netball tournament, a sports-related entertainment program and DJ music added colour to the highlights of the festival.
Students of the ESOFT Metro Campus Colombo main office along with their fellow students representing the Kurunegala, Gampaha, Panadura, Galle, Wattala and Kandy branches, together with student invitees from the Moratuwa, Katubedda Engineering College made up a total of around 1,000 participants for the event.
A unique feature of this year’s Sports Festival was the teaming up of ESOFT Metro Campus academic staff and students to take part in different sports activities while representing four houses – Persians, Spartans, Vikings and Athens. The initial rounds of these inter-house sports events continued for one week and at the end of the tournaments, the championship trophy was won by the Athens house.
Around 40 teams participated in the six-a-side cricket matches and the championship trophy was bagged by the staff of the ESOFT Colombo main office.
