Duleep Mendis to coach Oman national team

Former Sri Lankan test cricket captain Duleep Mendis has been contracted to coach the Oman senior national cricket team for the upcoming ACC Elite Trophy 2012.



Mendis steered the Sri Lankan team to record the first test cricket victory against India in 1982 during his career as captain from 1982 to 1987. He coached the Sri Lankan team during 1991-1992 and was the team manager of Sri Lanka’s World Cup winning team in 1996.

Mendis will coach Oman team ACC Elite Trophy 2012 participated by 10 nations. The tournament will be held in the UAE from October 3 to 13.

Mendis is to arrive in Muscat on September 4 and will handle the coaching/training camp in Muscat.

Afghanistan, Malaysia, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal Hong Kong, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia play in the 10-natios ACC Elite Trophy 2012.

Sri Lanka’s Cricket Board recently replaced Mendis by Asantha de Mel to lead the Sri Lankan national selection committee.
