Rapidly expanding, Divasa Finance Limited announced that it will be the sponsor for the National Netball Team at the upcoming 6 National Netball Tournament taking place in Singapore, in a bid to promote the sport to all parts of the country as well as internationally. Sri Lanka is at present the Asian Champions and it is essential to ensure that the players receive adequate international exposure in addition to receiving high performance skills development, physical and mental conditioning and nutrition, if the country is to retain this title at the Asian Championships to be held in Sri Lanka in August 2012.
Netball is now hugely popular in Sri Lanka where over seven thousand play this game and our national team is now ranked 14th in the world and first in Asia which confirms the fact that we can compete at an international level,” the President of the Netball Federation Interim Committee, Ms. Tamara Dharmakirti-Herath said. Our new captain, Tharshani Sivalingam, the tallest player in womens category is ranked number one among shooters across the world which is a feather in our cap. I really appreciate this bold and magnanimous gesture by Divasa Finance in contributing Rs. 1 Million for the development of our promising national team which no doubt will be an eye opener for other sponsors as well.
“We are pleased to support the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka and the National Netball team at a time our players are performing very well and need material and moral support to give them an edge over other countries. This game is now very popular in Sri Lanka as a team sport and there is no doubt that more latent talent hidden especially in villages could be unearthed through such sponsorships. We are glad to have made this contribution for the development of this sport,” stated Mr. Lakshman Uduwara, Director/CEO of Divasa Finance Limited.
The contingent to Singapore this year will feature 10 new Sri Lankan players, giving them an opportunity to face the stiff competition of playing against other international sides. It is expected that this exposure will greatly help them at the Asian Championships 2012.
