Last week saw the conclusion of ‘Sri Lanka Ports Authority Open 2013,’ one of the biggest professional golf tournaments to take place in Sri Lanka. Titled sponsored by Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dialog Enterprise was the gold sponsor of the event.
SLPA Open 2013, being the second largest professional golf tournament to take place in Sri Lanka, was held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, seeing a record number of participants with the biggest prize money for a golf tournament in Sri Lanka, of US$ 70,000.00.
Promoting the sport of golf locally, Dialog has taken upon themselves to sponsor two of the top golfers in Sri Lanka, Mithun Perera and K. Prabagaran at all local and international level golf tournaments in 2013.
“Professional golf is still at a very nascent stage in Sri Lanka although we have professional players who can represent the country internationally. Dialog strongly believes that our support and commitment will assist these players take Sri Lanka to the next level.” Dialog Chief Officer Jeremy Huxtable said.
Ranked presently as number one in Sri Lanka, Mithun Perera has four professional wins since 2011 and is ranked fifth at Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and 20th on the Asian Tour. He is also the only Sri Lankan to hold a full card on the Asian Tour (third, biggest Professional Golf Tour-Tournament body) in the world and the only Sri Lankan to hold multiple wins within a year.
K. Prabagaran at present is ranked at number three in PGTI. He was also the amateur champion in 2003 and 2009 and All India Amateur Champion in 2007.Prabagaran was placed second during the Sri Lanka Open tournament in 2010 and 2012. Mithun Perera thanked the Dialog for their support and said: “I am extremely happy to be partnered with a company like Dialog. Golf is a prestigious game and Dialog a prestigious brand. SLPA Open 2013 that ended last week was a close game as Mithun Perera who was the favourite to win was in good form and came in as first runner up losing by one stroke in the round to Chiragh Kumar from India.
