Sri Lanka’s largest mobile service provider Dialog Axiata is sponsoring the annual regatta between Musaeus and Ladies College, Colombo for the seventh time in the events eight year history.
The annual competition between Musaeus and Ladies College is currently the oldest interschool rowing competition amongst girl’s schools in Sri Lanka. Ladies College has bagged the overall trophy on four encounters, while Musaeus College has won twice with one encounter ending in a draw.
Rowing is a sport that requires immense physical and mental fitness. With increased female participation, the sport has gained much interest and recognition over the past few decades.
The annual Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge University with a history of over 155 years is one of the most televised university sporting events in the world.
Dialog, apart from 2009 has backed the Musaeus-Ladies Regatta from its inception.
“Having had an association with the Annual regatta from its inception, it is heartening to note the keen interest and dedication shown by both institutions involved in actively pursuing this past time with vigour and dedication,” Nushad Perera, Group Marketing Officer at Dialog Axiata said.
“The sport itself is demanding, and only those who possess both physical and mental stamina survive in the long run.” Dilini de Silva, an old girl of Musaeus College, Colombo and a former oarswoman at Colombo Rowing Club would grace this year’s regatta as the Chief Guest.
