DCSL holds Cricket Tournament 2016

The Annual Cricket Tournament of the Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC was recently held at the Shalika Grounds, Narahenpita. 

The six-a-side softball Cricket Tournament was organised for the fourth consecutive year with the intention of creating a platform for staff to showcase their talent while encouraging team work and enhancing self-confidence of employees. 

This year a separate tournament was organised for players above 45 years under the category ‘Veterans,’ in order to give them an opportunity to display their flair for cricket.

A total of 17 teams participated in both tournaments representing the Head office, Regions as well as some of the selected Subsidiary companies of the Group. 

The veterans representing the Dakshina Shoorayo emerged as Winners and the Northern Warriors as Runners-up.

The defending champions, Dakshina Shoorayo won the Championship of the DCSL Cricket Tournament 2016 for the third consecutive year while Central Heroes clinched the Runners-up trophy. 

The closing ceremony was graced by cricketing legend Roshan Mahanama, as the Chief Guest to witness the final match of the tournament and give away the prizes. 

T.D. Sirisoma representing Northern Warriors was awarded the ‘Best Batsman’ trophy, A. Sirisena Silva representing Dakshina Shoorayo was awarded the ‘Best Bowler’ trophy and R.P. Prasad Thusewhewage representing Dakshina Shoorayo was awarded both the ‘Man of the Final Match’ trophy and the ‘Man of the Tournament’ trophy in the ‘Veterans’ category. 

The much-awaited awards of the DCSL Cricket Tournament 2016 namely the ‘Man of the Final Match’ and ‘Man of the Tournament’ was won by K. Suresh Lakmal Representing Dakshina Shoorayo having won the ‘Best Batsman of the Tournament’ award the previous year. 

‘Best Bowler of the Tournament’ was awarded to T.A. Milan Darshaka representing Dakshina Shoorayo and ‘Best Batsman of the Tournament’ was presented to Saliya Bandara Thennakoon of Central Heroes.
