There is very little doubt that he will be another sensational spinner to be produced from the up country after Muttiah Muralitharan two decades ago. He is currently under the watchful eyes of coach Sampath Perera who produced some outstanding bowlers in the last four to five years. Sayer toured England with the Sri Lanka team and helped the team to win the test series which included a sevens wicket haul.
Sayer took 108 wickets last season: Moratuwa MV (3), St. Peter’s (5), St. Aloysius (12), Nalanda (9), Bandaranayake M.V (6), Dharmapala Pannipitiya (9), St. Joseph’s (7), Dharmasoka (8), Mahanama (6), Isipathana (13), President’s College Rajagiriya (8), S. Thomas’ (5), Royal (8) and St. Anthony’s (6).Sayer led the Central Province team to become the Runner-up to the strong Western Province team at the recently-concluded Under 17 Inter-Provincial Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket. He shone in batting too during the school season. At the Inter-Provincial Cricket Finals he scored a very good knock of 80 in the finals.
