Colombo Swimming Club celebrates 75th anniversary with UTE

The sole authorized dealer for Caterpillar equipment in Sri Lanka, UTE recently partnered with Colombo Swimming Club (CSC) to celebrate the Club’s 75th anniversary in December.

Priath Fernando, Chairman, UTE commenting on this sponsorship said, “The Colombo Swimming Club has an admirable history of 75 years and it has served as a cradle to nurture social decorum among its members, across many generations. We at UTE strongly advocate cultural value generation and community bonding through social and family interaction. In keeping with these beliefs, we decided to extend a sponsorship to CSC to celebrate its 75th anniversary this year.”

The Colombo Swimming Club that has become a landmark facility in the city is strongly embedded in the culture of Colombo. Throughout its history CSC has done an immense service to generate and uphold fellowship and camaraderie among its members.

To celebrate the Colombo Swimming Club’s 75th anniversary many colourful and glamourous events such as the Members’ day, Valentine’s Day, Octoberfest & Halloween Day were conducted throughout the year and the December festivities that were sponsored by UTE saw the peak of seasonal splendour with a grand Christmas celebration, Children’s Christmas party, Musical Shows, family gatherings with UTE-CAT gift packs to all members and two return air tickets to Singapore were also given to a lucky couple to spend a holiday in Singapore . On 14th January 2012  musician duo Ron & Helen Lucas performed at CSC. This musical event sponsored by UTE was the last event of Colombo Swimming Club’s 75th Anniversary celebrations.

Colombo Swimming Club that started in 1936 was the first club opened for the whole family amidst many other clubs that only accommodated the male folk in the city. CSC which commenced its operations in 1936 at Galle Face Hotel was shifted to ‘Storm Lodge’ in 1938 and between then and now has been an abode that has catered to many locals and foreigners alike.
