For the past 23 years the Rotary Club of Colombo Fort has been involved in many humanitarian service programmes for the benefit of the community at large. The most notable being a Tsunami related Housing project in Amabalangoda costing Rs. 70 million, funded by the Rotary Club of Bendigo-Sandhurst, Australia, with architectural, design services, logistics and project supervision by Colombo Fort.
With the assistance of the Rotary Foundation, Colombo Fort has completed the Thalassaemia and Hemophilia day care centre at the Ragama National Hospital at a cost Rs 15 Million. While these are only a few to name, the club continues to make a difference through service to communities all over the country.
In the past, the clubs’ annual fundraising event has been a dinner dance, but this year they have gone a step further and are organising a fun rally as the main fundraising event for the year. The City Cross 2012 will provide the participants with tasks to be carried out at ‘Pit Stops’ in order to earn points. The City Cross expects to draw over 500 participants in 100 cars! The Rotary Club of Colombo Fort strictly encourages drivers to be safe and obey road rules.
As in the past, the funds raised through this event will be used to implement identified community service projects during the current Rotary year of 2012/2013. One of them being the donation of a Heart Monitor to the Kalubowila General Hospital.
The City Cross will kick off on 13 October from the Colombo Hilton at 2pm and end at the Nawam Mawatha Car Park where felicitation of awards together with a funfair will be held. Registration is now open! The Rotary Club of Colombo Fort believes in making a difference with a focus on sustainable projects with long-term outcomes.
