CIMA Sports Day 2017, a two-day sports extravaganza organised by the CIMA Students’ Society (CIMASS), was held for its 21st year on 2 and 9 July.
The sports day is one of the most festive events on CIMASS’ calendar, bringing together more than 1,000 individuals comprising CIMA students, students who have completed exams, ACMAs, employees representing corporate organisations and several others. Establishing a platform through which one’s true sporting potential can be harnessed and brought to the fore, the CIMA Sports Day is an occasion where spirits as well as tensions run high amongst premier CIMA institutes, private and state universities and rival corporate bodies.
Organised on the theme ‘The glamour - the glory - the game’, the first leg of the sports day solely comprised basketball. The final match saw the Achievers Reds and team Hathara Denama Soorayo from Wisdom do battle, with Hathara Denama Soorayo emerging victorious, consequently securing the basketball trophy in the institute category.
The corporate category finals were between IIT and the University of Kelaniya, which resulted in IIT snatching victory in the final few minutes of the game.
The female basketball competition’s finals were between Achievers and Wisdom, with Achievers bagging the first women’s basketball trophy in the sports day’s history.
This year’s event was supported by Nolimit Ltd, Sri Lanka’s biggest and largest online fashion and lifestyle store, which came on board as the official Strategic Partner for the third consecutive year. The Imperial Institute of Higher Education stepped in as the Education Partner, Wijeya Newspapers Ltd. acted as the Print Media Partner while Sun FM joined hands with the event as the Radio Partner.
