Ceylon Leather joins MTV/MBC to Set Guinness World Record

Ceylon Leather – a member of the reputed ERI Group of Companies – is out to set a Guinness world record by manufacturing the largest leather cricket ball in the world to coincide with the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, the biggest ever sporting event in Sri Lanka. This unique leather ball has been on display at Sri Lanka’s inaugural match at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium at Hambantota.   

Ceylon Leather, a company synonymous with creativity and innovation together with MBC and MTV — Sri Lanka’s one of the most dynamic private sector electronic media companies — have come forward to pledge its support to our very own cricketing heroes at the ICC World Cup Tournament by wishing them good luck in a most innovative manner while bringing together the thousands of ardent fans of the Sri Lanka Cricket team.



The ball which is made to international standards of a leather cricket ball, has as its core twine thread wound into a ball by the fans at different locations that the ball has travelled to, and has been blessed with chanting of pirith to invoke the blessings of the triple gem.

The world’s largest ever leather cricket ball has travelled around the country covering all provinces courtesy of MBC and MTV, where cricket fans wound the twine to make it into a giant ball.
