Citizens Development Business and Finance Plc defeated Kanrich Finance Plc by two wickets to win the MCA ‘D’ Division 40 over league tournament at the MCA grounds last evening.
Invited to bat first, Kanrich Finance lost their openers for 11 runs but a 65-run fourth wicket partnership between Oshada Fernando and Madhawa Fonseka helped them reach a respectable 90/4. Shanil Perera ripped through the Kanrich batting line-up, capturing four wickets and restricting them to 113 in 31.2 overs.
CDB went into lunch at 30/1 after seven overs, way ahead of the Duckworth and Lewis par score but Shiral Senarathne grabbed five quick wickets to bring Kanrich Finance back into the game. But Shanil
Perera and Dhanushka Dharmasiri took the game away from Kanrich with a valuable 27-run seventh wicket partnership and CDB won the game by two wickets with 79 balls to spare.
The championship trophy was awarded by Wasanthalal Fernando, Head of Sales, Elephant House Beverages and Assistant Vice President of JKH, while the runners-up trophy was awarded by Mercantile Cricket Association President Niran Mahawatta.
Aravinda Vitanachchi of Expo Lanka received the award for the best bowler of the tournament while Chathuranga Dikkumbura of CDB received the trophy for Best Batsman of the Tournament as well as the Man of the Tournament. Shanil Perera of CDB was named the Man of the Final for his four-wicket haul and determined 12 runs off 37 balls which helped CDB win the final.
Chamara de Soysa and Ranil Susantha were the onfield umpires at the final while Manoj Perera was the match referee.
