The Council for Business with Britain (CBB) recently organised its annual Inter Sport Triangular, at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. The event brought together many corporates from the business fraternity onto the playing field to compete for top honours in cricket, netball and badminton.
McLarens Holdings walked away with the championship for cricket and badminton, while Commercial Bank took top honours in the netball tournament.
Speaking on the event and the Teacher Training project it benefits, Committee Chairperson Douglas Aceiro explained: “All proceeds from the day go towards financing the CBB’s English Language Teacher Training Project, which is managed by The British Council in collaboration with the National Institute of Education and the Ministry of Education. The project has been built up and refined over a number of years and its primary objective is to upgrade the English language skills of pupils in schools throughout Sri Lanka. This is achieved by building the capacity of local English teachers so that they deliver lessons that are more effective. By the end of 2014 the project completed training over 1000 teachers which in turn has had an impact on more than 150,000 students island-wide covering the north, east and also the south of Sri Lanka.”
MAS Holdings supported the event as the principal sponsor, with Qatar Airways and Hilton Colombo Residences as Silver Sponsors and AIA Insurance Lanka PLC with a Bronze Sponsorship. Aitken Spence Cargo, ATG Ceylon Ltd., Coats Thread Exports Ltd., Crystal Martin Ceylon Ltd., George Sourcing Services, LOLC Finance PLC, Sapath System, Sunshine Holdings PLC and Cinnamon Air stepped in as Co-Sponsors.
