Carey Old Boys set for Déjà vu

The Old Boy’s Union of Carey College Colombo will stage their annual Old Boys vs. Present Boys cricket sixes tournament on 6 June from 9.00 a.m. onwards at the Colts Cricket Club.

Traditionally played for the C.M. Vasa Challenge Trophy, the competition is being organised as part of a fundraising effort for the college’s Sports Development Fund, which was launched by the OBU last year in an attempt to uplift the standard of sports at the school.

‘Centenary Cricket Deja-vu 2015’ is an expanded program which, apart from the Old Boys vs. Present Boys encounter, includes events involving Old Boys, present students, teachers, parents and their families, making it a fun and entertaining day filled with fellowship. The day’s matches are listed below:

1. Two matches - Under 13 Inter-House softball (6 overs) 8-a-side game

2. Two matches - Old Boys vs. Old Boys softball (8 overs) 8-a-side (Under 35)

3. Two matches - Old Boys vs. Old Boys softball (8 overs) 8-a-side (Over 35)

4. Two matches - Old Boys vs. Teachers softball (8 overs) six-a-side

5. Under 13 Inter-House final softball (6 overs) 6-a-side game

6. Old Boys vs. Present Boys leather ball (20 over game)

The program will commence at 9.00 a.m. and the prize distribution will be held at 4.00 p.m. with Pramodya Wickramasinghe attending as the Chief Guest and Jerry Woutersz, the manager of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team and an Old Boy, gracing the event as the Guest of Honour.

The college’s brass band, a DJ and papare bands will provide live music throughout the day. There will also be bouncers, games of skill stalls, food stalls and many more activities which provide a carnival atmosphere.

Led by Project Chairman Inam Hassan and Project Secretary Prasad Mendis, the organising committee comprises many eminent and enthusiastic Old Boys. The committee requests Old Boys from all generations to join in the fun and entertainment, together with their families, and help strengthen the school.
