Brandix triple champs at Mercantile Volleyball finals

Teams from the Brandix Group won three of the four finals of the Mercantile Volleyball Men’s and Women’s Tournament on Sunday 8 September, in an impressive display of sporting dominance. Brandix Casualwear - Katunayake won the Men’s Championship, Brandix Intimate Apparel - Minuwangoda won the Women’s Championship and Brandix Intimate Apparel Minuwangoda claimed the Men’s Super League trophy at the tournament organised by the Mercantile Volleyball Association. The three champion teams were among eight Brandix teams that made it to the top three in each of the championship categories at this year’s tournament. In the fourth final worked out on 8 September, Brandix Casualwear - Rideegama was the runner-up in the Men’s Championship, while Brandix Intimate Apparel - Welisara emerged runner-up in the Women’s Super League. Nine Brandix players from the Group’s three victorious teams also won personal awards as Best Setter, Best Attacker and Best Player at the Women’s and Men’s Championships and the Men’s Super League. These players were Nayana Anupama Jayarathna (Best Setter – Women), Kumari Wanniarachchi (Best Attacker – Women) and Mangalika Wasanthi Kumari (Best Player – Women) from Brandix Intimate Apparel - Minuwangoda; S.H. Nawaf (Best Setter – Men), Damith Ranga Fernando (Best Attacker – Men) and Samith Laknajith (Best Player – Men) of Brandix Casualwear -Katunayake; and Kasun Fernando, (Best Setter – Men’s Super League), Anusha Priyan (Best Player – Men’s Super League) of Brandix Intimate Apparel -Minuwangoda. A total of 78 teams competed in the tournament, with 23 of them representing companies in the Brandix Group. The group, which employs more than 44,000 associates, conducts its own annual volleyball tournament for the ‘Rasadiya Kusalanaya’ (Mercury Trophy), which is considered the largest volleyball tournament organised by a private company in Sri Lanka.
