Super driving skills and brilliant effort by the pit crew earned BKMS Racing another great victory when they completed 562 laps at Round 1 of the Pulsar Power 6-Hour Endurance Karting Championship 2016 held at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Bandaragama.
Thunderbolt Racing, who finished 560 laps, were placed second while SLR Motorsports, who completed the same number of laps but with slightly different timing, were placed third.
Thunderbolt Racing recorded the fastest lap of the day when they clocked 36.747 seconds.
A highlight of the event, which saw 14 invited teams competing for a spot on the podium, was the all-female team Devils on Wheels who certainly did not lack in spirit and put on a superb display of girl power.
Teams with a maximum of six members each, comprising drivers and pit crew, competed in this race where drivers manoeuvred their karts through the straights and turns continuously for six hours, putting team strategy and a heady mix of speed, stamina and skills to the test.
Racing against a talented field of drivers were two teams representing the David Pieris Group, Pulsar RS and Pulsar NS, comprising the best drivers selected from a karting challenge held for Group employees a few months ago.
Commenting on Round 1, Head of Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Bandaragama, Richaryd Rabot says, “This was a historic event which scored two firsts. We had the highest number of teams vying for honours and it was the first time in SLKC history that an all-female team took part in a race. Endurance karting requires great stamina where both man and machine are pushed to the extremes and it was a closely fought battle with both second and third as well as fourth and fifth placed teams completing the same number of laps in the allocated time”.
David Pieris Motor Company Limited (DPMC) was the title sponsor of Pulsar Power Six-Hour Endurance Karting Championship 2016 while Assetline Leasing Company Ltd. (ALCL) was the Gold sponsor. The event was organised by Bandaragama Go-kart Racing Club.
