Bishop’s regain U-19 tennis crown

Bishop’s College emerged the under19 schools tennis champions when they narrowly beat St. Bridget’s Convent 3-2 in the final of the All-Island Inter-Schools Tennis Tournament held at the SLTA courts from May 2 - 5.

Bishopians were up against the defending champions St. Bridget’s in the final. Bishopians with players in the ranks of Shankari Thayakaran, Dinushki Ranasinghe, Sinneli Jayampathy the captain and Mirthula Skandarajah played well throughout the tournament.

The exuberant Bishopians were thrilled to bring back the trophy that had eluded them for the past three years. All teams from Bishop’s College that had entered the tournament advanced to the semi-finals. The under-13, 15, 17 and 19 teams entered the tournament and the under-19 team emerged as champions.

The under-19 team remained unbeaten in their group winning over Asian International School 4-1, Visakha Vidyalaya 4-1, St. Bridget’s Convent 3-2 and Methodist College 4-1. They later crushed Ladies College 3-nil in the semi-finals. (TBR)
