Big guns blaze way to semis at national women’s tennis tourney

Top seed Nethmi Waduge, defending champion Thisuri Molligoda, Medhira Samarasinghe and Anika Seneviratne all advanced to the National Women’s Singles semi-final with straight sets victories in their respective quarterfinal encounters.

Waduge defeated Probudhi Prerea 6-0 6-0 and Molligoda beat Roshenka Fernando 6-0 6-2 while Samarasinghe’s match with Rukshika Wijesooriya was stopped with Samarasinghe up 3-2 in the first set after her opponent was forced to forfeit due to injury.

Seneviratne beat Janali Manamperi 6-3 6-4 to book a clash with last year’s national champion Thisuri Molligoda for a place in the finals.
