Druvinka Moraes from Bates Strategic Alliance claimed the Mercantile Tennis Women’s Open title beating Nimarla Fernando of DFCC comprehensively at the annual Mercantile Tennis Tournament 2012 held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association. The 22-year-old beat her opponent with an impressive score of 6/1 6/0.
Mercantile Tennis Tournament, the final major tennis tournament of the year 2012, was conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA). The tournament this year which had 13 events, attracted 139 entries from the corporate sector. The players represented a variety of organisations, such as reputed financial institutions, telcos, FMCG companies, etc.
Druvinka took part in a local tennis tournament after four years as she was studying in the United States, where she represented the University of Illinois in Tennis. Commenting on the win, Druvinka Moraes noted that it had been a pleasure to be back on the courts and to represent Bates Strategic Alliance and thanked her parents and everyone at Bates for supporting her.
