The premier circuit meet for the year is a highlight of the national championship with a record number of entries and participants.
The Formula 4 event is a very competitive class comprising the best open-wheel competitors in the island.
Avant Racing hoped to do well in their inaugural outing with their new drivers. Liam Lawrence topped the timings in qualifying with a blistering 1:08.156 and claimed pole position.
Andrew Choksy qualified in fourth position with an equally quick 1:08.826, where the top four times were split between hundredths of a second.
On race day, a racing incident cost Lawrence his position as he dropped to fifth overall. Choksy managed to convert his fourth position to a podium finish as he claimed third place at the chequered flag.
The Avant Racing team had a very successful first outing during the weekend whilst claiming top times in qualifying and a podium finish on race day.
“It was a tough race in extreme wet weather conditions at Katukurunda. We had to hold back a lot and drive smart in order to get a good result. I am delighted that I was able to bring home a podium finish for Avant Racing and keep the team flag flying,’’ Avant Racing Formula 4 EFi Driver Andrew Choksy said.
Rotherham Katukurunda was the final race of the year for the Formula event and was seen as a widely successful weekend. Avant-Garde hopes to support racing in the Formula class and will be seen as a top contender with their drivers in the near future.
