Asanka emerged as the winner of Arugam Bay Surf Classic 2012, repeating the feat he achieved last year. Second place went Prenith Kalu and third place to Cyrill Prenith.
Arugam Bay Surf Classic 2012, which is presented by Arugam Bay Beachwear in partnership with Arugam Bay Surf Club, has already carved a niche as Sri Lanka’s only island wide surf competition with participation from around the island. With Arugam Bay Beachwear as the title sponsor along with Sri Lanka Telecom as the main sponsor, SOL as the official beverage sponsor, ONDA as the official surfboard sponsor, Stick it as the official wax provider and technical assistance by Surfing the nation, plans are being made to make it into a bigger and more professional surf contest in the region.
“It’s logical and quite natural that Sri Lanka should have one of the best surfing competitions in Asia. We are committed to it, so that the sport of surfing gets the boost, so does the local community and surf based tourism. Like said our brand is totally committed to it, we started this last year and by Gods grace its already taking shape,” CEO/Director Arugam Bay Beachwear Ajai Vir Singh said
Like last year, Arugam Bay Surf Classic 2012 boasted of an international judging bench of qualified judges and professionals from Hawaii, Australia and the UK.
