St. Anthony’s College Katugastota won the All-Island Under-16 12–a-side rugby tournament, beating a strong Science College Mount Lavinia outfit 7-5 in the cup final held at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
The first day of the tournament was worked off at two venues in Kandy - Pallekelle and Bogambara stadiums. Yesterday’s proceedings took place at the Bogambara Stadium with the knockout encounters taking place. In total 42 teams participated in the two-day event.
Trinity secured the Plate, defeating Kingswood in a one-sided affair 26-0, while Dharmaraja claimed the Bowl, defeating D.S. Senanayake 12-5 and Ananda secured the Shield beating Maliyadeva 12-0. The tournament was sponsored by Milo with Damith Kulatunga, External Affairs Manager, giving away the awards with the guest of honor being the Acting Trinity College Principal, Colin Ratnayake.
