Akila Nuwanga Silva, a player from Infinity Vacations, a newcomer to the Travel Trade Sports Club, emerged as the new Cup winner at the 4th TTSC Pool Championships 2017, which concluded at the Shotz Pool Parlour at Excel World, last Friday.
Thirty-eight players from 14 member firms took part in the event. Akila Nuwanga beat last year’s Plate winner from SriLankan Airlines Mohamed Sharaz 2/0. Yaseer Shafraz from Classic Travels won the Plate Championship, beating Dasith Dushmanth from Green Holidays 2/0.
Andre Power from Walkers Tours took the Bowl championship, as he beat Ackiel Jameel from Amadeus Lanka 2/1. Dilshan Gnanapragasam from Resplended Ceylon won the Shield Championship, beating Mohamed Hassan from Classic Travel 2/0. Gnanapragasam was responsible for the exit of top seed Viraj Nallawangsa from Authentacities (last year’s Cup runner-up) in the first round.
Last year’s Cup winner Zaeem Sheriff from Classic Travel did not participate. The other upset was that Hasitha Kamalanath from ECO Team, last year’s Bowl winner, the third seed, lost to Shevon Herath from Infinity Vacations in the first round.
The tournament was sponsored by Yaneesha Travels, Seeduwa for the 4th successive year. The awards were presented by Snr. VP Bonita Odayar, tournament co-ordinator Shan Perera and Committee Member Dilshan Gnanapragasam all from the Travel Trade Sports Club.
