Akbar Ebrahim, Trainer of the International Automobile Federation, known by its French acronym FIA (Federation Internationale de Automobile) has arrived in the island from India, to conduct a training program for young Formula Drivers.
He is scheduled to conduct the programme on 21 and 22 January, at the Pannala Race Circuit.
Indian Drivers who underwent training from Ebrahim have reached top level slots in India, as well as in international racing, in the recent past.
Most of the Indian Drivers who were under his supervision and training are presently competing in Formula I, II and III Grand Prix events held in many parts of the world.
Twenty three young Sri Lankan Formula Drivers, including three ladies will have the opportunity of undergoing this training programme.
These participants have made their way into Formula driving after taking their first steps at the Speed Drome Sports Complex at Battaramulla, driving Go Karts and Pro Karts, and will be handling McLarens 1300cc class vehicles for the first time.
Ebrahim will closely watch the performances of the participants, along with local officials, before selecting the fastest ten drivers who will be eligible to compete at the Speed Championship 2012, which is due to be run at the same venue, commencing on 12 February.
