The annual Thurstan-Isipathana Big Match cricket encounter is a much-looked-forward-to event in the schools’ sports calendar.
This year, Sri Lanka’s No. 1 cable company ACL Cables Company will lend its corporate strength as the main sponsor for the 53rd annual encounter between Thurstan and Isipathana to be held on 26 and 27 February at the SSC Grounds.
The partnership agreement was signed in the presence of the principals from both Thurstan College and Isipathana College Colombo on 11 February at Thurstan College premises.
ACL Cables PLC Group Finance Controller Champika Coomasaru handed over the official sponsorship cheque during the event. “Cricket is a game all Sri Lankans especially school children are extremely passionate about. As an innovative corporate entity we firmly believe in the need to support our youth through sports and the 53rd Thurstan-Isipathana Big Match is an ideal opportunity for ACL Cables to partner one of the best cricket encounters during the big match season. I wish both teams the best of luck,” said Coomasaru.
Adding colour to the sponsorship event was the much-loved Percy Abeysekara, Sri Lanka’s one-man cheering squad. Abeysekara is also an employee at ACL Cables.
For over half a decade ACL Cables has been recognised as the nation’s largest and pioneering cable manufacturer. Today the company dominates as a group in the local market with over 70% sales and is also a global player exporting to markets of South Asia and beyond, such as Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Liberia, Mauritius and Tanzania.
