The World Rugby level 1 Match Officiating course was conducted at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium last weekend with 17 participants attending the training.
This program was conducted by World Trainers Vimal Perera and Dilroy Fernando with the event organised by Sri Lanka Rugby with the support from the new Central Province Rugby Football Union (CPRFU) headed by Pradeep Basnayake and Kavinda Jayasena and his committee.
Dilroy Fernando told Daily FT: “Among the 17 participants it was encouraging to see five Trinity college 1st XV rugby players following the course. I hope they will get seriously involved in refereeing as I saw huge potential in these young players. I think the last Trinitian to have been involved in refereeing at highest level in Sri Lanka was S.W. Chang who officiated in the ’80s and ’90s periods. I hope more young players participate and follow World Rugby training programs conducted by Sri Lanka Rugby in the future.”
