The newly appointed Advisory Board headed by Asanga Seneviratne held talks with the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SSRFA) recently in Colombo.
Seneviratne speaking to Daily FT said: “The meeting with the schools’ association was very positive. They presented their plans and asked for our support to restart rugby on 16 December, with the Under-19 Western Province seven-a-side tournament. They have drawn out their calendar for the Sevens and now are discussing the restart of the XV-a-side matches as well.
“We are encouraging schools to play their key trophy matches as soon as possible. The lads must be given the opportunity to represent their respective schools for which they have worked so hard over at least 10 years.”
The last school’s XV-a-side match was played in March 2020. The schools’ section is planning out to kick off Sevens rugby with tournaments in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces. Schools XV-a-side – league and knock-out – will start early in 2022.
