Viran Perera clinches HSBC Premier Challenge Trophy 2017

Viran Perera became the overall winner of the HSBC Premier Challenge Trophy 2017 while Shiraz Akbarally won the C Division, Seniors and Ladies category at the 5th season of HSBC’s Premier Golf Tournament which took place at the Shangri-La Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa on 15 and 16 September. The tournament was played to a Stableford format.

The flagship HSBC Premier Golf tournament has seen an increase in participation over the years with this year bringing together over 100 seasoned golfers who competed for the challenge trophy on the beautifully-landscaped par-70 course. Ahead of the main tournament, customers were invited to a pre-game of night golf on 15 September to test their ability of chipping by playing over the pond to the 18th green using an illuminated Golf ball, a key attraction. Perera was adjudged the winner with 3 feet and 6 inches being the closest to the pin.

The overall winners were awarded fully sponsored hospitality packages to fly to Shanghai-China and witness the World Golf Championship 2017 – HSBC Champions at the Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, China from 26-29 October.

The bank sponsored the first ever ‘Junior International Golf Championship in the country recently, promoting Golf as anyone’s game and tapping young talent at grass-root levels from around the country. Special category awards for the best HSBC Premier Junior Golfers were awarded at the event. Aside from the flagship Premier Golf Tournament the bank also sponsors the annual HSBC 5-Club Stableford Golf Tournament held at the RCGC.
