Seventeen-year-old schoolboy from Springfield College Kanas Kumar Dhanushan and Melanie Bond both were in sparkling form when they accounted for the Gents and Ladies win at the Gross event of the Victoria Golf Club Championship 2022 which took place at their Club Course in Rajawella last weekend.
More than 60 members participated in the annual event which took place after a lapse of three years due to COVID pandemic. Melanie Bond (187) won the Gross event while evergreen golfer, Ahalya Rajan (192) ended close second. Ahalya also accounted for the Ladies Nett and Longest Drive in the Ladies events.
Meanwhile Kanas Kumar Danushan (159) was closely followed by Kushal Johnpillai (160) in the Gross event. Kushal also won the Nett event on count back method. Meanwhile the Runner-up at the Nett event was another 12-year-old young sensation from the British School, Thejas Rathiskanth. The youngster had a dream debut game at the Rajawella course Club Championship who also ended in the top five among some top golfers in the Gross event.
Suhayb Sangani and Derrick Ponnambalam both ended on number three and four respectively in the gross event while in the Nett segment too Suhayb Sangani and Aslam Mohideen both ended on number four and five positions respectively. Club events took place for 36 holes for Members under Strokeplay method while seniors and other segments took place on the first day for 18 holes under Stableford method.
