Under-17 Division One quarterfinals today

The quarterfinals of the schools Under-17 Division One cricket tournament will be played at the St. Peter’s College, St. Joseph’s College, Royal College and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia grounds today.

St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota will meet Mahinda College, Galle at the St. Peter’s College Ground in Bambalapitiya, St. Joseph’s College will meet Royal College at the S. Thomas’ College Ground in Mount Lavinia, St. Anthony’s College, Wattala will meet St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa at the Royal College grounds in Reid Avenue while two undefeated teams - Nalanda College, Colombo and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia - will meet at the St. Joseph’s College Ground at Darley Road.

In the pre-quarterfinals Royal College defeated Gurukula College Kelaniya by 113 runs, Nalanda College defeated Maliyadewa College by 38 runs, St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa defeated Thurstan College by six runs, S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia defeated Dharmaraja College Kandy by seven wickets, St. Anthony’s College, Wattala defeated St. Peter’s College by two wickets, St. Anthony’s College Katugastota defeated Ananda College by two wickets, St. Joseph’s College defeated Isipathana College by two wickets and Mahinda College, Galle defeated Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa by one wicket.

In round one of the tournament 74 teams were drawn into 10 groups and played each other on a league basis with the top three teams and next two best teams qualifying for the second round. These 32 teams were drawn into eight groups from which the top two qualified for the pre-quarterfinal stage which concluded last week. Last year’s champions St. Servatius’ College, Matara were unable to repeat their feat as they failed to qualify for the second round.
