The 28th Singer-MCA Premier League T20 Tournament has once again been postponed, this time as a result of the SLC Invitational T20 League currently in progress at the Pallekele Stadium.
The league stage began on 20 April, with the participation of four teams, namely Hayleys Group, John Keells Group, HNB and Citizens Development Business Finance (CDB).
The tournament went on smoothly up to 27 April, completing eight matches, but was stopped in its tracks following the third wave of the pandemic.
Following are the results of the eight matches completed:
Hayleys beat HNB by 5 wickets at MCA; CDB beat John Keells by 2 wickets at SSC; Hayleys beat CDB by 96 runs at SSC; John Keells beat HNB by 9 runs at P. Sara Oval; HNB beat CDB by 10 runs at NCC; Hayleys beat John Keells by 2 wickets at P. Sara Oval; Hayleys beat HNB by 2 wickets at P. Sara Oval; and John Keells beat CDB by 54 runs at NCC.
Unbeaten Hayleys Group heads the table with four wins out of four, followed by HNB with two wins and two defeats; HNB and CDB has one win and three defeats apiece.
Subsequently, the MCA Tournament Committee decided to re-start the tournament on 10 August, but their efforts went in vain, as it clashed with the SLC T20 Invitational.
The official sponsorship presentation took place at the MCA Pavilion Lawn recently, where Singer Sri Lanka Marketing Director Shanil Perera handed over the package to MCA President Rohana Dissanayake. Others present at the occasion were Singer Sri Lanka Senior Manager Promotions K. D. S. Kanishka, MCA Senior VP Nalin Wickramasinghe, MCA General Secretary Sirosha Gunatillake and MCA Tournament Committee Chairman Tarindra Kaluperuma.
