Sri Lanka Cricket Vice President Ravin Wickramaratne addressing the Under 19 cricketers after they were handed a cheque for Rs. 100,000 each by Sri Lanka Cricket
Sri Lanka Cricket rewarded and recognised 26 players of the U19 squad, currently undergoing training focusing on the upcoming inbound tours, U19 Asia Cup, and the U19 World Cup.
The players were given financial assistance of Rs. 100,000 each for the commitment shown to the game after being identified through an island-wide talent hunt program conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
“During our playing era, we did not have adequate cricketing facilities and playing opportunities to enhance our game. However, things have changed now, as Sri Lanka Cricket is working tirelessly to provide the best of facilities for the cricketers to prosper and progress to the next level,” said Sri Lanka Cricket Vice President Ravin Wickramaratne, whilst handing over the monetary recognition to the players.
“You were selected to the U19 squad out of a talent hunt program Sri Lanka Cricket conducted across the island covering every district and province and I urge you to use this opportunity and progress to the national level,” Wickramaratne added, when he addressed the players.
The 26 players completed a 22-day residential training camp in a bio-bubble at the SSC on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley De Silva, Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association President CEO Ashley De Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket Head of National Cricket Development Tim McCaskill and Sri Lanka Cricket Head of Domestic Cricket Chinthaka Edirimanne were also present.
